In fact, a dragon would be the only creature I would EVER consider having as a pet. They are just TOO awesome for words. Like so many other fantasy creatures, they are popular in many of the cultures of the world. In fact, that their popularity spans multiple cultures is one of the coolest things about dragons. When I was younger, I was already into dragons in a major way (thank you, D&D) when I first found out about the Chinese Zodiac. Then I found out that I was born in the Year Of The Dragon! I didn't put much stock in what the astrology said about Dragons, and I don't really put much more in it now, but it was immensely gratifying that I was classified as a Dragon. And that I was BORN into that classification, it wasn't some trumped thing I chose because of a passing fad. Once I found out I was a dragon, I adopted the dragon as my personal totem. I have tons of dragon posters, some dragon based clothing, and most of my electronics have some kind of dragon icon on them.
Here are a couple of my favorite Dragon related pics. First, these are a compilation of 3 hard to find images done by Robin Koni. In order from left to right: DragonLord, DragonSpit I, DragonSpit II. They've been renamed across the Internet, but when I bought these posters back in '94 (or so) that's what they were called. Oh, what I wouldn't give for a flat bed scanner than could make high res scans of these posters!!
I don't know the artist on this one, but it has an awesome Gothic feel to it that really speaks to me. Cool, huh?

ReplyDeleteAnd I, too, share your affinity for dragons. I was born not just in the year of the dragon, but the hour as well according to Chinese astrology. Hence why part of my Chinese name means dragon.
