Must Post More....

A good friend of mine and an avid reader of this blog (I know! I was surprised to find I have avid readers, too!), has requested that I post more on here. Well, you have to give your audience a little of what they want or you'll lose them, so I shall endeavor to post more!

I think I have a couple of ideas on what I should do, so look for at least TWO more posts before end of day, Saturday of this week (4/13/2013).

WOO HOO!!

If you have any ideas on what you think I should write about, please let me know in the comments below!

My recent postings

It's been commented in previous posts, and by some of my friends, that my posting recently has been laser focused on movies and TV. At first, I didn't believe them, but then I actually went back and checked and it turns out they're right.

Now, I do have to admit that Movies & TV take up a more than normal share of my life, since that is my default pass time and a major passion of mine. But I started this blog to express my feelings and to place my deliberations on a public forum to be commented upon and argued. But also to extract all the thoughts buzzing in my brain and give myself room to create NEW thoughts. Or at the very least, examine my old thoughts from new perspectives.

So, from now on, I shall endeavor to touch upon more diverse subject matter. There will still be a great deal of tv & movies, but I'll spread them out more evenly. Case in point, this post and my last one!

An Apology

September was a very busy month for me. I found out my contract job was going permanent. And that the very same job that I thought was doable turns into an insane avalanche of work during the fall, eating up time in a way I didn't think was possible. I was warned about it, but knowing something and experiencing it are two very different things.

I also made the decision to go out and get an apartment on my own. While mostly a financial decision, it was also a lifestyle choice. I wanted to get an apartment I could afford and after living with people for six years, I needed my own place again. So, while stressing out about a job, I also was piling it on by conducting my own apartment hunt. Most of which was online, with the finalists getting calls from me to set up showings. And I managed to get a really great place and have it be within my budget.

And then, of course, there was the actual MOVING to the new place. Packing stuff up, etc.

All of this took huge chunks of my time and neural energy. As a consequence, I didn't get to post much on here. I dropped the ball, dear readers, and for that, I apologize. I can't say it won't happen again, but I will try to maintain a steady stream of new content.

Thanks for reading!

Another mini milestone

I just checked my blog post counter. I've cleared 100 posts this year! That is so cool. This post will be 101, just like those damned Dalmations that Disney keeps forcing on the world... Give it up! Just let Cruella have them already!! Stop damning them to a lifetime of being tormented by a woman who can't pick what hair color she wants!!!

Anyhoo, this post is going to be something of a life check. You've already read about my new bed frame. I went on the second date with Online Girl. That is her codename. In order to protect her identity from the evil Murphyonic forces out to ruin my life, I have given her this codename. Since people have been hounding me with questions about it, the second date went well. And no, I won't be writing up any other dates. It gives OG too much of an unfair advantage. Why should she be able to read my thoughts on here? She should have to learn to traverse the unruly labyrinth of my mind on her own!! And then there's the privacy issue. While I tend to live my life very publicly, there are some things I'll keep to myself, unless there are major milestones, which have to be made public.

I have other posts to write, so I have to end this one. Adieu, dear readers, parting is such sweet sorrow...

Disturbing Trend

I've been looking back at my posting for the past couple of months, and I've noticed a disturbing trend. After my initial upsurge of posting in April, my posting has been dropping off. I'm still posting a lot, given that I'm still clearing double digits in my posts. But the numbers are trending downward. In thinking about it, I can only come up with one reason: writer's block.

I've really been stuck on what to post up here. However, this morning I felt a shift in the paradigm, a change in The Matrix. I think my writer's block is coming to an end.

Stay tuned, dear readers. There is more to come, soon!!

100th Blog Post

I can't believe I've made it to 100 posts on here. I've never consistently shared my views about ANYTHING that much. Granted these posts are on a variety of topics, but they are still my views, thoughts and opinions, and given that I spend so much of my time in solitude, it's unusual to have so much of me floating out in cyberspace.

Thanks go out to my followers for reading and commenting when you have the time! I hope to have given you some food for thought, and possibly for discussion!

Next step: 1000!!!

My absence...

Dear readers,

This post is an apology. I have been denying you the fruits of my vision, and I am sorry. The fact is, it's been exceptionally hot in my area of the country and that heat has been magnified in my apartment. Consequently, my normal reasoning levels have dropped due to the heat sapping my neural energy.

The situation has been corrected. I got myself an air conditioner for my bedroom and as you can clearly see from this post, it's already allowing me to replenish my neural energy and regain my mind and myself. I will be posting again within the next couple of days.

Be patient with me, dear readers. The drought will end soon!

Popularity

For the two or three people who actually read this blog, I have a question. Do you have any ideas for how to make this blog more popular?

I'm working on posting more often, and with different and varied topics. Any other ideas? I value your opinions, dear readers, and I would like to hear MORE of them. Please, speak to me. I, the DilKing, will listen.

Rising out of Obscurity

Since the advent of the search engine, the Internet has become a great deal more simple in terms of FINDING any information relevant to your needs. One of the best is Google.com. Not only are they widespread, but they have a sense of humor. (April 1st 2010, they changed their page to Topeka in a mock name switch with the town! People's reactions were HILARIOUS!!)

After a little while, as people got used to search engines they started searching other things besides work stuff. Inevitably, they end up searching for themselves. And yes, dear reader, I have succumbed to the urge and googled myself. (Insert inappropriate sexual jokes here!) The funny thing is, I found ANOTHER Rodney Lopez out there, who is a Mambo dance instructor!! Who would have thought God would make TWO spanish women crazy enough to mix Rodney with Lopez!! But it's true! Open another tab, go to Google and do a search on "Rodney Lopez". Mr. Mambo will appear.

However, I did a search for my internet handle "Dilking". And THIS BLOG appeared!! AT THE TOP OF THE LIST!!!

In fact, my blog has the top 3 links on the search! I'm gaining ground! Soon I will be famous! My name will be on everyone's lips... Velvet Ropes & womens's legs will part at my command!

I WILL RULE THE WORLD!!!!

Hmm... maybe I shouldn't be famous...

Wait, people are actually READING this stuff??

Wow, I have to say, I'm utterly shocked! I put up a post about an old, tired argument (which will NEVER die) and I get such an overwhelming response! Some comments and an some emails, too!!

Who would have thought anyone was actually reading this blog? And to think, I only put that post up to fill out the blog. I needed to post more stuff in here, so I rehashed the old Batman vs Supes thing and BAM!

Now if I can only figure out a way to get more followers... Hmm....

A Goal...

In looking at my blogging history, I can only come to one conclusion: it's pathetic. The most posts I put up in a single month is ten. For crying out loud, TEN!!

So, here and now, I am going to set myself a goal. I will beat this record. Mark my words, by the END of April I will have at least 20 posts for the month! If I don't, I will.... do something awful to myself like watch Clueless, Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde 2 all together in a marathon.

That's it. Mark my words... by the END of April!! SO it is written, so mote it be!

Thoughts On... Blogging

A couple of days ago, one of my favorite shows came back after a relatively long time on break. The show is House MD, and while I could go on for awhile about why the show is so awesome, that's beyond the scope of this essay. Suffice it to say that one reason I enjoy the show is because they tend to bring up intriguing topics to think about & discuss. This past ep brings up the idea of blogging and the effect it has on people. Both those who blog AND those who read blogs.

The patient in the last ep is a woman who is an avid blogger, who spends a good portion of time posting every detail of her life to her blog for public consumption. Including a fight she had with her husband, and all the issues with her treatments as events in the ep play themselves out. It was brought to a focal point, when she had to choose between two options for heart surgery and left it up to the opinions of her readers which option she would take. A decision that could determine whether or not she would be able to have children in the future.

Is it right to live your life so openly? Posting personal information not only about yourself, but also about those people who matter in your life? A friend of mine believes that losing yourself in a crowd of people can be therapeutic, and I agree. There is a balancing nature in hearing the varied opinions of the people around you in regards to the events you're dealing with in your life. But at what point does it stop being therapy and becomes a place to hide from making decisions on your own?

That's a huge danger of living life publicly. At a certain point, the pressure of your "followers" can overwhelm you into making decisions you wouldn't make under normal circumstances. Think about the example of the lady in the House ep. She was willing to make a decision that could prevent her from EVER having children based SOLELY on the input of her readers. And not what SHE thought was best for her. It's the difference between asking for advice & opinions from others and having your own thoughts overridden by the whims of the masses. Seriously, should you live your life according to the whims of your blog readers? People you don't know, and have never met??

And then there's the consideration of other people you mention in your blog posts. By putting them in your blog, you're taking away a part of their privacy. In today's modern world, there's an expectation of a small amount of public exposure. For example, my friend who has his own blog. I can safely reference anything in that blog, because it's already in a public forum. But at what point should the line be drawn. Would an argument between myself & my friend belong on my blog? It's part of my life, right? For me, I would leave it out, or if I did put it in, make the other person's identity as general as possible to protect their privacy. After all, no one likes unwanted public exposure. The ep mentioned that privacy is a modern concept since people lived in communities so small that it was impossible to keep secrets, but I disagree. If that were true, people would not have lived in in separate, discrete houses. The desire for privacy has been around for a long time. In fact, I would venture to say that it's a primal need. History is chock full of people going off on their own to discover themselves, or for adventures, or just for the solitude.

But when does blogging become too ridiculous? The woman in the ep says that she likes blogging because it's an avenue into how someone thinks and what they are thinking at any given time which, in her mind, makes for a stonger bond between her & her followers, or her and whatever blogger she's into at the moment. She actually stated the fact that she hated that her husband didn't have a blog, hated not knowing what he was thinking. To which I thought, why not just ASK him? Why not just SPEAK to him? To further illustrate the point, another scene in the ep has the blogger lady typing in a post, while a friend and reader catches up on the latest postings WHILE BEING IN THE SAME ROOM! They're in the same room together, and they're communicating via text on the screens of their respective laptops!! One has to ask, is the pseudo-public venue of blogging really a connection? Or is it just another virtual world we lay onto the reality around us to make it more palatable?
