The Friend Zone

I'm in a select subset of the male population. I have no problem with female friends. In fact, I've got TONS of female friends. They actually OUTNUMBER my guy friends. And all of these women are very beautiful. It's really cool, but at the same time, it kind of sucks. Think about this for a minute, at any given moment, I'm surrounded by any number of gorgeous women who see me as a sexless entity, a good buddy, someone to talk to, etc. It's like crawling through the desert, just to be shown a PICTURE of a glass of water.

If the late, great Rod Serling were to write an intro to a show about this, it might go something like this:

You're about to enter another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a torturous land whose boundaries are that of temptation. It is the middle ground between amity and lust, between camaraderie and romance, and it lies between the pit of woman's empathy and the summit of her passion. This is the dimension of benevolence. The signpost up ahead states your destination, you're about to enter…
THE FRIEND ZONE

The problem is, like Roach Motels, once you check in to the Friend Zone, it seems you can't check out. The only egress is to NOT go in. But how do you avoid that?

If you all have any ideas, let me know.

Blog Zero - The Origin

Greetings and Salutations!

This is my blog! The place where I get to share all my long winded thoughts and overly logical ideas with the CyberSpace Community. Anything and everything that is fit to be in my mind will most likely end up here.

I guess you're wondering who I am. Seeing as this is my first blog post, it's a good question. Here's the break down:

Name: Rodney D. Lopez
Age: 32
Race: Latino
Location: Manchester, NH
Occupation: Software developer

I am a geek, or nerd, if you prefer. Honestly, tags and labels don't really matter to me. I write software for a company in MA. Like most geeks, I'm into science fiction & fantasy. I also recognize that those are two COMPLETELY SEPERATE genres, despite what book publishers and movie studios would have you believe.

I'm a Cinephile, meaning I go crazy over movies. I used to think that I was so random with movies that I didn't have a favorite of all time, but I recently proved myself wrong. I was shocked, I mean ME? WRONG? That can't happen? Can it? I was assured by myself that not only could I be wrong, I WAS wrong in this case. My favorite movie of all time is Back To The Future. No matter how many times I watch it, I can always watch it again. I can recite almost the whole movie (complete with acting in some cases) from memory "What did I tell you! 88 MILES PER HOUR!!!", and the DVD format reached it's peak when BttF was released. Other movies I love: The Terminator Quartet, The Die Hard Quartet, The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, The Hannibal Lector Quartet… Damn, most of the movies I like come in fours, don't they? Okay, now for the INDIVIDUAL movies I love: Dark City, BeetleJuice, Real Genius, The Prestige, The Illusionist, Equilibrium, Memento, The Incredible Hulk, etc. I could go on forever with this.

I'm also into TV shows, music, comics, japanese anime (and yes, it's called "Anime" not Japanimation. Get it right!), women, computers (duh!), creative writing, performing magic….. um, sunsets, long walks on the beach, kisses in the rain, and pina coladas…. just kidding about those last few.

So that's the tip of the iceberg that is me. Now about this blog…. Basically, I'm going to be over-analyzing any and all topics that I come across in my life. Feel free to suggest some topics if you want. I'll blog about anything!! That's right, I'm an equal opportunity blogger!!

So, now to the interesting stuff….. MY OPINIONS!!!

Oh, one other thing… about the title of this blog. I was introduced into the world of the internet during the reign of the BBS (bulletin board service, for the who's at home) and one key thing in that arena was to develop a 'Net Handle, which is a unique identifier for you and you alone. I've gone through a bunch, ( a favorite being based off of the most challenging boss in the Metroid game series) but the one that has stuck for so long it's permanent is a shortened version of my middle name, Dilking. And since I'm going to be considering or deliberating on various topics…. the title just appealed to the crass alliterative side of me.

Okay, now blog exit, Take two:

So, now to the interesting stuff….. MY OPINIONS!!!

And this time, I MEAN IT!!
